At 10:30 p.m., police responded to University Hospital after a man walked in for treatment of a gunshot wound, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
The man said he was walking west on Springfield Avenue when a black SUV stopped in the area where he was walking and a passenger began shooting in his direction, Fragé said.
The man ran from the scene and was driven to University Hospital by a driver who offered him assistance, Fragé said. The man is in stable condition but is unaware of the exact location of where he was when the shooting occurred, Fragé said.
